The federal government is putting pressure on cantons like Zurich. You must vaccinate faster. But the vaccine is missing. Now it is even less than advertised.

Waiting for the vaccine: On January 4, the first couple in the canton of Zurich received a vaccine. According to the Federal Council, 8,000 people must be vaccinated per day in February.

There are strict requirements for Zurich Health Director Natalie Rickli. On Thursday night, Federal Councilor Alain Berset asked the cantons to increase their vaccination quota. Berset literally said: “The cantons must be able to vaccinate 525 people per day and per 100,000 inhabitants in February.”

For the canton of Zurich, with its 1.5 million inhabitants, this would mean almost 8,000 vaccinations a day, starting the following week.

The latest figures from the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) show how difficult it will be to achieve the goal. It published the vaccination rates for the cantons on Friday morning.
