- Nadine Fähndrich triumphs in the absence of the Scandinavians in the Dresden sprint in free technique.
- For the 25-year-old, it is the first victory in a World Cup.
- In the men’s category, Federico Pellegrino wins again. The Swiss miss the final.
A sovereign competition from A to Z: Nadine Fähndrich won all of her heats at the Sprint World Cup in Dresden, Saxony, and thus deservedly secured her first World Cup victory.
The 25-year-old Lucerna’s tactic worked perfectly. Faehndrich always took the lead early and never gave up. American Sophie Caldwell got closer to the Swiss in the final and came second. Third place went to Anamarija Lampic from Slovenia.
The absence of the “great” exploited
In addition to Fähndrich, Laurien van der Graaff, another Swiss woman, made it to the final. The 33-year-old routine made him a great result for the Swiss team, finishing fifth.
Fähndrich is the third Swiss woman to celebrate a World Cup victory. His predecessors are Evi Kratzer (1987) and Laurien Van der Graaff (2017, 2018).
Swiss women also benefited from the absence of athletes from the major nations Norway, Sweden and Finland. Scandinavians currently do not participate in World Cup events for fear of corona infection.
Pellegrino twice later
There was no surprise for the men. A week after the Sprint World Cup in Davos, Italian Federico Pellegrino also won in Dresden. He referred the British Andrew Young and the Russian Gleb Retiwych to the other places on the podium.
Unlike the women, the final took place without Swiss participation. Roman Schaad and Janik Riebli were the last remaining Swiss ski riders to reach the semi-finals.
