Apple to introduce iPhone 12 at 7pm and maybe One More Thing
On Tuesday night, Apple will most likely introduce four new iPhone models – presumably these are called the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Apple today unveils the new iPhone 12. And, as has happened so often in recent years, a lot of information about Apple’s new phone has already leaked in the lead-up to the unveiling. Everything points to a new design, which is based on the angular design of the iPhone 4 and 5. It is almost certain that Apple will launch four new iPhone models, including the iPhone 12 Mini. It is also almost certain that the iPhone will support the new 5G network for the first time.

Four new iPhones in three sizes
In recent years, Apple has released three new iPhone models each fall. In 2020 there are expected to be four, although not all model variants will be available immediately.

What we expect:
- A brand new one, 5.4 inches tall iPhone 12 Mini. It will be available in black, white, red, blue and green, will have 64, 128 and 256 GB of storage and will be sold in the United States from 700 dollars (plus tax). Compared to the Pro model, it should have a slightly weaker camera.
- 6.1 inches tall iPhone 12, which would be the same size as the previous iPhone 11 and should have similar specs to the iPhone 12 Mini. It will also be available in black, white, red, blue and green, will have 64, 128 and 256 GB of storage, and will start at $ 800 in the United States (plus tax).
- One second, 6.1 inches tall iPhone 12 Protechnically better equipped. It’s expected to come in gold, silver, and blue with 128, 256, and 512GB of storage, respectively, and is slated for $ 1,000 plus US tax.
- A new one, 6.7 inches tall iPhone 12 Pro Max, which should have a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 11 Pro Max (6.5 inches). It’s expected to come in gold, silver, and blue with 128, 256, and 512GB of storage, respectively, and it’s slated for $ 1,100 plus tax in the US.
A new and familiar design
Since the 2014 iPhone 6, the iPhone has rounded sides. Now Apple is apparently going back and bringing the angular design of the iPhone 4, 5 and SE back. The new iPhone 12 is also visually similar to the iPad Pro.

With screen diagonals from 5.4 to 6.7 inches, Apple will in the future have the right size for almost all tastes. The alleged iPhone 12 Mini, which, unlike the dated iPhone SE (2020), offers a full front screen and more modern technology in a smartphone that is small by today’s standards, looks particularly tempting.
Probable technical data
Trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the renowned “Wall Street Journal,” and the often well-informed financial service Bloomberg reported months ago on four new models and corresponding screen sizes. Over the weekend, Apple’s Chinese leaker Kang revealed more technical details. According to appletrack.org, Kang’s forecasts for new iPhone models are extremely reliable. Specifically, Kang hits the 97.8% percent mark.
According to Kang, we can expect the following technical specifications.
- All models must have an OLED screen
- All models must support the 5G network (but not necessarily the really fast frequencies)
- All models come with the new A14 chip
- Pro models probably have more RAM (6GB instead of 4GB) and the largest maximum storage option (512GB instead of 256GB)
- Only Pro models have three camera lenses (allows for better zoom, among other things)
- Only Pro models have a LIDAR sensor, which should allow for a better augmented reality experience
- New color: blue
- The power supply and headphones are missing from the packaging
- The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are expected to launch in October (in the US), and the iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max in November.
If the information turns out to be true, the new iPhones technically offer roughly what was expected: new processor, 5G and finally all models would have a high contrast OLED screen that allows more vivid colors and tends to save battery.
It is a shame, but not in vain, that Apple continues to do without a fingerprint sensor in its new models (except for the iPhone SE (2020)). Somewhat surprisingly, Apple apparently dispenses with a technically better 120Hz display on all models. 120Hz displays are now standard on premium smartphones, Apple itself relies on them for the iPad Pro and calls the display technology “ProMotion.”
A higher refresh rate (120Hz instead of the previous 60Hz) allows for a smoother screen experience and buttery smooth scrolling, while increasing battery consumption. The intensity with which you perceive the difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz is individually dependent on the viewer’s eye. Apple is apparently now saving this “innovation” for the 2021 model.
iPhone 12 probably without power adapter or headphones
Multiple sources also report that Apple for the first time refrained from including a wired power supply and headphones with the iPhone 12. If the information is correct, an attempt is made to persuade customers to purchase a fast charger and Airpods separately. . It’s also conceivable that more bundles with iPhones and Airpods will be seen in the future. There will hardly be less electrical waste in the future, but putting accessories aside should definitely pay off Apple financially.
Unlike the power supply, the charging cable (Lightning to USB-C) must still be in the package. The iPhone 12 apparently doesn’t have a USB-C port, although Apple has switched to the USB-C industry standard for a long time with the iPad Pro.
IPhone 12 is late
Apple confirmed in late July that this year’s new iPhone models will not go on sale as usual in September, but “a few weeks later.”
Observers now expect this data in the US:
- iPhone 12 mini: reservation from 6/7. November. Publication of 13./14. November
- iPhone 12: reservation from 16/17. October. Publication of 23./24. October
- iPhone 12 Pro: pre-order from 16/17. October. Publication of 23./24. October
- iPhone 12 Pro Max: reserve from April 13 and 14 November. Launch November 20-21

One more thing?
According to the rumor, Apple could introduce a wireless charging pad that the iPhone 12 attaches magnetically to during the presentation.
A new HomePod Mini is also being discussed. The little smart speaker is said to cost around $ 100 in the US, and thus vastly cheaper than the older, larger HomePod.
