A dream come true for Ronald Koeman in August when he was appointed FC Barcelona coach. Shortly before the start of the new adventure, the Dutchman must deal with a health setback.

Dutchman Ronald Koeman suffered a mild stroke shortly before being appointed FC Barcelona coach in May. This is what the 57-year-old coach said in an interview published this Wednesday on the website of the most important Spanish soccer club. “When things like this happen, or when close people get sick, life changes. It makes you see things differently, ”said the former Barça professional.

“Now was the right time”

In August 2020 Koeman gave up his position as bond coach and took over at FC Barcelona as the successor to Quique Setién. “I am 57 years old and have trained for several years, but I don’t want to do that when I am 70. Now was the time to come here. It has always been my dream to coach FC Barceloa, ”said the former defender, who played for the Catalans between 1989 and 1995 and won four leagues.

He also wants to do it with Barça as a coach. “In a club like Barça you have to win things. I think our ultimate goal is to win games and trophies. We cannot settle for less, ”said the 1988 European champion.
