Two activists who remained in a tree for days after clearing a protest camp on a hill near Eclépens have left the facility. One was slightly injured in a fall several meters deep, the second climbed the tree himself.
The Vaudois canton police announced this on Saturday afternoon via Twitter. The activist, who fell from the tree, was caught by his own ropes. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. The second person descended from the tree a little later.
The fall of an activist occurred shortly before a demonstration in support of the activists announced for Saturday afternoon.
The collective ZAD (Zone à défendre) wrote that the fallen activist had a lot of experience and that his fall was due to a mistake. The police provoked this. The person concerned could not rest. The police took materials such as sleeping bags, gloves and warm clothing from the activists. For their part, the police had always insisted that the two activists were safe.
The police had begun the evacuation of the protest camp, which had existed since October 2020 at the facilities of the building materials manufacturer Holcim, at dawn last Tuesday. On Wednesday, the police declared the action over. However, the two activists did not give up. They stayed in a tree out of reach of the police until Saturday.
