Zurich police give the go-ahead after a major operation at the French consulate. A suspicious item has been shown to be harmless.
There was a large-scale operation at Signaustrasse in Zurich’s 8th district on Friday afternoon: several police specialists, two ambulances and forensic experts were called in. they were there because the French consulate had reported a suspicious article. A drone flew over the street during the operation.
The suspicious item was a plastic bag, as police spokesman Marco Cortesi says. There was nothing dangerous about it. The police gave the go-ahead after 1:30 p.m.
A “gift” for the president
The bag was said to have been delivered by a woman at the consulate that morning, with the note that it was for the French president. Later, the police unleashed the operation. A school and a nursery adjacent to the building were also affected: 200 adults and children had to be evacuated. The woman is still being sought.
