Three days after a massive landslide in Norway, rescue teams found a second body in the disaster area. This was announced by the chief of police operations, Roy Alkvist.
So far, two victims have been discovered in the area of the landslide. Several people are still missing.
One still hopes to find survivors in the disaster area, Alkvist said.
The massive landslide occurred early Wednesday morning at Ask in the municipality of Gjerdrum, about 40 kilometers northeast of Oslo. It expanded to a length of about 700 meters and a width of 300 meters. At least ten people were injured and nine houses collapsed as a result of their departure. Around 1000 people were brought to safety.
The affected region was searched with drones and thermal cameras during the night and the emergency services set out again on foot on Saturday morning towards the landslide zone. Authorities said it was still a rescue operation. There were no new finds overnight.
At least one child is missing
On Friday, emergency services found the first dead in the area of the landslide. As with the second finding on Saturday, police have so far not provided any information on gender or age. Before the two finds, ten people were missing. Two of the missing persons are said to be minors. According to a police list, a girl born in 2018 is said to be among the missing children. The oldest person on the list is a woman born in 1951.
