This Wednesday morning, a district near the center of the small town of Ask in Norway was hit by a massive landslide. The moving earth had a mass of 300 by 700 meters.
The land mass razed several houses with it and claimed around ten wounded, five of whom are in hospital. Between 500 and 700 people were able to get to safety. According to the state broadcasting company “NRK”, 21 people are missing.
The cause is still unclear
According to media reports, the police were alerted around 4 am and launched a major search operation in which the Red Cross was also involved. The helicopters took the affected people to safety. Rescue work was hampered by darkness and bad weather. The geologists were also on site.
The exact cause of the landslide is not yet clear. It may have something to do with the type of soil, which is said to be very unstable. There are hills in the vicinity, but no high mountains. It has also rained a lot lately.
Affected shocked
