The political committee “Kulturstadt Jetzt”, which has pledged to promote culture and gastronomy, is responding to the tightening of the crown measures in the canton of Basel-Stadt with massive criticism. The committee does not question the protection measures, but the communication between the federal government and the canton.
“Most of the clubs and bars are nearing completion,” managing director Jo Vergeat tells Telebasel. “The measures are changing the behavior of consumers, restaurants have already noticed in recent days. In these circumstances it is not possible to operate successfully ”, criticized the Grand Councilor (Verdes).
Already bad mood before the measures
The current situation was foreseeable, writes “Kulturstadt Jetzt” in a press release that was sent out on Friday. However, economic cushioning measures were not prepared for the affected companies and those affected were not included in the decision-making processes. “Even before the toughest measures, the mood in the industry was bad. Even then, many were unclear if they would manage to continue to exist.”
“It would have been the minimum that, in parallel to the hardening, adequate measures of emergency aid had been immediately communicated and implemented for the innumerable companies affected,” criticizes the commission. “The Night Culture Working Group met last week, but we were not informed of any future changes,” Vergeat continued.
The committee now expects the government to act immediately.
