- Poisoned Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny spoke up in an Instagram post just four weeks after he was poisoned.
- He has been able to breathe for only a day, Navalny wrote of an image showing him in the hospital bed.
- Meanwhile, a Navalnys spokeswoman said she had plans to return to Russia soon.
- On Monday it emerged that two other special laboratories in France and Sweden had found a neurotoxin warfare agent from the Novichok group as the cause of the poisoning.
Hi, I’m Navalny. I missed you, ”the poisoned Kremlin critic wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “I still can’t do anything, but yesterday I was breathing alone all day.”
One photo shows the 44-year-old sitting visibly weak in his hospital bed and being hugged by his wife Julia. His two sons are also there.
His message on Instagram caused jubilation among his colleagues. The photo received hundreds of thousands of likes in a few minutes. Navalny passed out on a domestic flight in Russia on August 20 and has been treated at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin since August 22.
Multiple confirmed poisoning
He is considered one of the sharpest critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin and was in an artificial coma for weeks. Earlier in the week, the Charité announced that his condition had improved and that he could temporarily leave his sickbed.
Several special laboratories have discovered that the opponent was poisoned with a nerve agent from the Novichok group. However, Russia claims not to be involved in the case and demands proof of poisoning.
Navalny could return to Russia
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has underlined its willingness to investigate the poison attack. A spokesman for the presidential office in Moscow said Tuesday that everyone would be happy if Navalny recovered. The Kremlin critic would also like to return to Russia.
For Alexej Navalny, this appears to be an option, as several news agencies report. Nawalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, wrote on Twitter that she had plans to return to Russia from Germany soon. When asked by reporters, Yarmish said there was never any other option but to return to Russia.
Meanwhile, the Russian government would like access to Navalny’s samples and analysis. Putin also called for German and Russian doctors to work together.
Earlier, despite calls from German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, the Kremlin was reluctant to answer questions about the poisoning and denied any official involvement. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov even accused the West of using the incident as an excuse to introduce new sanctions against Moscow.
