The Paris antiterrorist prosecutor’s office confirmed to the German press agency on Friday that they were investigating. At least two people were injured in the attack on Friday afternoon and one suspect was arrested.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex has called an emergency meeting. Initially there was different information on the number of wounded: first there were four, then two. The number of perpetrators was also unclear. A suspect was arrested near the Place de la Bastille, not far from the crime scene. The media reported two perpetrators; initially there was no confirmation.

Several schools and kindergartens have been closed as a precaution in the city center. The area around the crime scene was completely cordoned off by emergency services, a dpa reporter reported. So there were no panic scenes, people complained that they couldn’t go home. “Merde, Merde,” grumbled an old woman. Officers also reportedly investigated a suspicious package in the area; nothing should have come up initially.

“Charlie Hebdo” process in progress

The terrorist process surrounding the bloody Islamist attack on Charlie Hebdo has been unfolding in Paris since the beginning of the month. 14 people pay. A total of 17 people were killed in the series of attacks that lasted for several days in January 2015. The attacks not only affected Charlie Hebdo’s editorial team, but also a kosher supermarket in Paris. All three perpetrators were shot dead by security forces.

The defendants are accused of having collaborated in various ways in the preparation of the attacks and of having belonged to a terrorist group. In most cases, prison terms of up to 20 years face imprisonment. The defendants are said to have obtained weapons or provided them with accommodation, for example. Charlie Hebdo republished cartoons of Muhammad and was threatened again as a result.
