Serious accident in Spa: Alfa-Sauber-Pilot Giovinazzi crashes here(00:28)
Antonio Giovinazzi is in charge of the race scene at Spa, unfortunately in a negative sense. On lap 10, the rear of his Alfa-Cleaner breaks when accelerating into Turn 13. The Italian crashes violently into the tire wall.
Kimi Räikkönen in the second Alfa-Sauber can avoid a double retirement just behind Giovinazzi. George Russell is less lucky: Williams’ driver is hit by a loose Alpha wheel. It also hits the barrier. Both drivers emerge unscathed from their demolished cars.
Kimi defeats both Ferraris
Raikkonen fights in vain for championship points with Ferrari’s inferior engine. He is 12 years old. But: The Finn beats both Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel (13th) and Charles Leclerc (14th). What a humiliation for the Reds! Kimi is the fastest driver of all time with a Ferrari engine. And in the direct duel of the former world champions, he makes Vettel look like an old man in his overtaking maneuver.
Hamilton two wins behind Schumi
At the front it is much less spectacular. Controversy Lewis Hamilton is in control at all times. At the start and at the restart after the safety car phase, the Briton maintained his lead over his Mercedes Bottas and Verstappen colleague at Red Bull. Bottas made no serious attempt to overtake. Hamilton celebrates his 89th race. He’s just two hits from Michael Schumacher’s record.
Even if he has to leave the extra point for the fastest lap to Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), Lewis leads the World Cup with 157-110 points ahead of Verstappen.
