Tao Geoghegan Hart wins the penultimate stage of the Giro d’Italia in Sestriere. After 190 km in the mountain sprint, he prevails over the new leader Jai Hindley.
The battle for overall victory at the 103rd Giro d’Italia promises to be very exciting. Jai Hindley (Sunweb) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos) face the last time trial on Sunday in Milan at the same time. The time trial is 15.7 km long and practically flat.
The leadership of Geoghegan Hart and Hindley is a huge surprise. Neither of them had achieved a top 15 spot on any of the three great national tours (Giro, Vuelta, Tour de France). Hindley wears the pink jersey in the final because he drove milliseconds faster in the time trials.
Kelderman is left behind
Wilco Kelderman only has outside opportunities. The Dutchman lost over a minute and a half on stage eight and had to hand over the leader’s jersey to his Sunweb teammate Hindley.
The crucial scene took place about 30 kilometers from the target when Kelderman missed an attack. His deficit in the general classification is now 1:32 minutes.
