Premier League club Newcastle United is about to take over Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman (34). As soon as the deal for the CHF 362 million equivalent is wrapped in dry cloth, the rather mediocre sports club should rise sharply.
Bin Salman is worth CHF 313 billion. With his entourage (and incredible wealth) he wants to take the English Beletage by storm first and then the whole of Europe.
Cruel murder
But a dark cloud hangs over MbS, as Bin Salman is often called. A cloud of death. He is considered the mastermind behind the murder of Jamal Khashoggi († 59). The anti-regime journalist was cruelly murdered on October 2, 2018 at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul. MbS would insist several times in the next few days that Khashoggi had left the building independently. It was only on October 19 that Saudi Arabia admitted that Khashoggi lost his life at the embassy.
Hatice Cengiz (40), Khashoggi’s fiancée at the time, is still devastated today. Now he is writing to Newcastle United fans in an open letter: “I am writing this at a crucial moment in the history of your well-known football club. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the unrestricted ruler of Saudi Arabia wants to take over his club by offering a large amount of money, “said Cengiz.
And furthermore: “I know that many of you are tempted to accept the offer to get out of the terrible situation that has paralyzed your club for so many years.”
“He controls with an iron fist”
“But,” Cengiz continues, “the Crown Prince is accused of ordering Jamal’s murder. All credible investigations have shown his responsibility. He has not been brought to justice in his own country because he controls him with an iron fist.”
In fact, although MbS is trying to make the country appear more liberal, human rights violations are still on the agenda, as Amnesty International reports. The organization’s statistics put the number of executions in Saudi Arabia at 184 people in 2019, a sad record of deaths.
Cengiz: “I ask you to consider whether accepting Mohammed bin Salman’s offer is really the right way to get out of despair for your club and your city … I implore you all, unite, protect your beloved club and yours. City in front of the Crown Prince and the people around him. They are not taking this step to help him, but only to serve themselves.
It is doubtful that former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley (55) is still abandoning the 362 million deal. Even if the cloud hangs over Newcastle afterwards. (say)
