The opening of the borders is near. Germany, France and Austria should be freely accessible again on June 15 (BLICK reported). According to Justice Minister Karin Keller-Sutter (FDP, 56), it is better to think twice if you want to spend a vacation in other European countries.
“You have to keep in mind that a lush summer vacation will probably not be possible, even if certain limits are opened,” says the federal councilor in an interview with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung.” And: “If you want to be safe, you should spend your vacation in Switzerland.”
Caution: “Crown restrictions naturally also apply in neighboring countries.”
Italy remains a special case
For holidays in Italy, Keller-Sutter does not give the green light at first. “I suppose the southern borders will remain closed in the near future.” Ticino, which is severely affected by the coronavirus, also demands that “the border is still open to rush hour traffic.”
Italians obviously have a similar opinion: the federal adviser confirmed in an interview that there was no desire on the Italian side to open the borders.
But Keller-Sutter does not believe in a second crown wave. “I also trust your own responsibility when you travel, and I’m not afraid of a second wave.” However, a residual risk remains.
Tourists bring money to Switzerland
It remains to be seen whether foreign politicians will give their citizens the same advice as Keller-Sutter, preferring to stay home for the holidays.
