Given the extremely worrying situation in the health sector, the canton of Jura has imposed a cantonal state of emergency until November 15, as the Jura government announced on Friday. Starting Monday, public and private gatherings of more than five people will be prohibited. Legislative assemblies and worship services are exceptions.
As of Monday, all restaurants and bars as well as public facilities in the cultural and sports area must remain closed in the canton. The use of a mask is mandatory for students and teachers at secondary level 1.
According to their own statements, the Jura government is forced to take these measures to avoid the collapse of the health system. Cantonal hospitals are on the edge and should have transferred the first intensive care patients to Basel. In the last two weeks, 19 deaths from Covid-19 had already been registered, almost three times more than in the first wave of spring.
