A problem occurred with a batch in the production of the corona vaccine by the manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. At a partner company’s production facility, an ingredient had failed quality control and was therefore not used, Johnson & Johnson announced on Wednesday (local time).
At the moment, the company did not provide any information on how many doses of vaccine were affected by the problem at contract manufacturer Emergent Biosolutions. According to a New York Times report, there are said to be around 15 million doses of the vaccine. The company’s vaccination takes full effect after a single injection.
Additional support to producers
The problem: Apparently, the workers mixed the wrong ingredients. The Baltimore plant produces for Johnson & Johnson and Astrazeneca. Apparently the active ingredients were mixed. The authorities have launched an investigation for human error.
Johnson & Johnson said it plans to continue delivering 100 million cans to the US government by the end of May, as previously promised. The company will now provide contractor manufacturer Emergent Biosolutions with additional expertise and monitor on-site production in the US state of Maryland, it said. (SDA / koh)
