Britain’s crown crisis is getting worse: 3,500 to 4,400 new cases have been added almost every day in recent days, the number of infections doubled in seven days. If the virus continues to spread unhindered at the same rate, the UK could count nearly 50,000 cases a day by mid-October, leading health experts warn.
The country is at a “dangerous tipping point”, said Prime Minister Boris Johnson (56). To curb the contagion, he has announced new measures that he will apply from Thursday and that he wants to implement with the army if necessary. Johnson: “We will enforce the rules with stiffer fines of up to £ 10,000. We will bring more police to the streets and, if necessary, we will call in the army for support. “
A government spokesman made it clear that soldiers must take over clerical duties or guard places for which the police are responsible. The military should not gain new powers or impose fines. Rather, it is about creating additional capabilities for police controls.
These are the new rules:
- Pubs, bars and restaurants close at 10 pm
- In restaurants there is only table service.
- Masks are mandatory for restaurant staff and customers who are not seated.
- Masks should also be mandatory in stores and taxis.
- Workers should return to work primarily in the home office.
- Weddings can be held with a maximum of 15 guests.
- No more than 30 people are allowed to attend funerals.
- Indoor sports can be practiced by a maximum of six people.
- Plans to allow fans to return to sporting events are suspended.
The Scots go even further. Visiting people at home should be prohibited there. Up to six people can meet in the garden.
“Invisible enemy”
Boris Johnson calls Corona “the biggest crisis the world has ever faced in my life.” There were too many rule violations, allowing “our invisible enemy” to pass undetected. Johnson: “The tragic reality with Covid is that a mild cough can be the death sentence for someone else.”
The opposition in the British Parliament has asked Prime Minister Boris Johnson to clarify his proposal that the military be used in the fight against the crown pandemic.
A Labor MP wrote in a letter on Wednesday asking what exactly the soldiers are doing in such a case and how the costs should be covered. Chancellor Dominic Raab (46) later accused the opposition of “scaremongering”. (gf)
