At the beginning of the new year there is good news from the Super League: FCZ midfielder Vasilije Janjicic has beaten cancer after three months of therapy.

In September, the news shocked all of Swiss football: Vasilije Janjicic suffered from cancer. Nati’s former under-21 player, who returned to FC Zurich from HSV in 2019, underwent intensive treatment. On Friday night, the 22-year-old announced that he had won the fight against cancer.

“I am proud to say that after 3 months of chemotherapy and 2 operations I have overcome my cancer,” writes the midfielder on Instagram. It is difficult to find positive words for 2020, “for me personally it is by far the worst and most difficult year of my life,” says Janjicic. “However, I don’t want to say much about this damn year, except ‘2020, you lost!'”

FCZ President Ancillo Canepa can be quoted as follows on the website of the Zurich city club: “The energy and zest for life that Vasi fought against his illness is impressive. We are all very happy to see him train with the first team again and hope to see him play again soon. Janjicic played his last game in July.

«Dear friends, dear fans

Positive words for 2020 are hard to come by. It felt like we were all in the same boat and we were overshadowed by bad news every day. For me personally, it is by far the worst and most difficult year of my life. However, I don’t want to say much about this cursed year, except for ‘2020, YOU LOST!’

I want to start the year 2021 with very good news. I am proud to tell you that after 3 months of chemotherapy and 2 operations I have beaten my cancer! I would like to thank everyone and especially my family and friends who supported, accompanied and helped me during this difficult time. A big thank you to my teammates @fcz_offiziell and the fans for their daily support. I would also like to thank the national team @nationalteams_sfvasf and my former club @HSV and their players and representatives. I also want to thank my advisors and the people behind @soccertalk_gmbh who, like my family, were there for me and supported me along the way.

I am very happy to be healthy again and I am incredibly happy to be back on the pitch soon and finally playing football again. 💙⚽️

For the year 2021 I wish you all and your loved ones good health, good luck and above all good luck.

See you soon, your Vasi »
