Iran is considering the Trump era

Iran’s Vice President Ishagh Dschahangiri wrote this on Twitter on Sunday. The United States should return to its international obligations after the elections, the vice president said. Iran is particularly concerned, as President Hassan Ruhani mentioned on Saturday, with the United States’ return to the Vienna nuclear deal and the lifting of existing sanctions.

US President Donald Trump not only exited the nuclear deal in 2018, which was supposed to ensure that Iran uses its nuclear program only with a low level of uranium enrichment for civilian purposes and cannot build an atomic bomb. It had also imposed new sanctions on Iran. These plunged the country into the worst economic crisis in its history, which was exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. If sanctions are lifted, oil exports, Iran’s most important source of income, could rebound again.
