Better camera, 5G and an angular design: Apple has introduced 4 new iPhones
In recent years, Apple has released three new iPhones every fall. In 2020 there will be four of them and all the new models are compatible with the 5G network. However, now you have to buy the power adapter and headphones separately.

What is immediately noticeable: Since the iPhone 6 of 2014, the iPhone has rounded sides. Now Apple is backing down, bringing back the angular design of the iPhone 4 and 5. All four new iPhone 12 models look like the iPad Pro. That fits, because technically and in terms of price, the new iPhones are pretty professional too.
Typical for Apple, the price range is between 779 and 1589 francs. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will go on sale on October 23. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will follow on November 13. Anyone buying a new device should know: Recently, the power supply and headphones are no longer in the iPhone box, accessories can be purchased separately.
The highlights of the Apple event at a glance:
iPhone 12 mini
The new iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4 in large OLED screen. It comes in black, white, red, blue and green, optionally with 64, 128 or 256 GB memory. Compared to the Pro model, it has a slightly weaker camera with only two lenses, but it has the same fast processor. Consequently, it’s not a bargain – we have the mini with the smallest storage option (64GB) since 779 Franken available.
iPhone 12
the 6.1 inch The large iPhone 12 comes with the same technology as the iPhone 12 mini. It is also available in black, white, red, blue and green. You can choose from 64, 128 or 256 GB of memory. You can get iPhone 12 from us since 879 Franken.
iPhone 12 Pro
The iPhone 12 Pro also comes with one 6.1 inch-OLED screen, but it is a little better equipped in general. For example, the triple camera allows for better zoom (4x optical) and it should also take better photos at night. The Pro model is available in black, gold, silver and blue with 128, 256 or 512 GB of memory and is with us since 1129 Franken available.
iPhone 12 Pro Max
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the largest iPhone to date to come with 6.7 in it has a slightly larger screen than last year’s iPhone 11 Pro Max (6.5 inches). Technically, it corresponds to the smaller Pro model, but it has a slightly better camera (5x optical zoom). Both Pro models are also made of stainless steel (instead of aluminum).
The Pro Max comes in gold, silver, and blue with 128, 256, and 512GB of memory. For us it is since 1229 Franken available.

The first conclusion
With small screen diagonals from 4.7 inches on the iPhone SE (2000) to 6.7 inches on the massive iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple now has the right size for just about every taste.
The new iPhone 12 mini (5.4 inches), which, unlike the outdated iPhone SE (2020), offers a full front screen and more modern technology in a smartphone that is small by current standards, is particularly interesting, if not cheap.
Apple offers roughly what was expected: new processor, 5G, and finally all models have a high-contrast OLED screen that allows for more vivid colors and tends to save battery life.
Compared to the previous year’s model, the camera in particular is said to have been improved. Unfortunately, if you want the best iPhone camera, you have to go for the huge Pro Max. Experience has shown that the normal iPhone 12 (mini) camera should also be more than solid.
For the first time, Apple has decided not to include a wired power supply and headphone with the iPhone 12. This is obviously intended to encourage the customer to purchase a separate fast charger and wireless Airpods sooner or later. It’s also conceivable that more bundles with iPhones and Airpods will be seen in the future. There will hardly be less electrical waste in the future, but putting accessories aside should definitely pay off Apple financially.
Unlike the power supply, the charging cable (Lightning to USB-C) is still in the package. The iPhone 12 doesn’t have a USB-C port this year either, although Apple has switched to the USB-C industry standard for the iPad Pro for a long time. IPhone buyers will also have to wait for a fast charging feature that can keep up with the competition.
It is a shame, but not in vain, that Apple continues to do without a fingerprint sensor in its new models (except for the iPhone SE (2020)). Much more surprising is that Apple dispenses with a technically better 120Hz display even on the extremely expensive Pro Max model. 120Hz displays are now standard on premium smartphones, Apple itself relies on them for the iPad Pro and calls the display technology “ProMotion.”
A higher refresh rate (120Hz instead of the previous 60Hz) allows for a smoother screen experience and buttery smooth scrolling, while increasing battery consumption. The intensity with which you perceive the difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz is individually dependent on the viewer’s eye. Apple is apparently now saving this “innovation” for the 2021 model.

One more thing? Jup, da war noch it was
Apple kicked off “One More Thing” on Tuesday and introduced the new Smart Speaker HomePod mini even before the new iPhones. The older HomePod’s little brother costs $ 99 in the US, but it should hardly be coming to us anytime soon. As a reminder: Apple has yet to officially sell our largest and much more expensive HomePod.
