Hyperthreading for everyone is the motto of Intel’s tenth generation of desktop CPUs. I3 processors are now getting the technology. Also announced: the i9-10900K boosting up to 5.3 GHz and 10 cores, which is to strengthen Intel’s reputation as king of games.

The highlight of the new generation of CPU is undoubtedly the i9-10900K. Thanks to Thermal Velocity Boost technology, the processor boosts up to 5.3 GHz. 4.9 GHz should be possible on all ten cores. On board are 20 MB of Intel Smart Cache.

Characteristics

With the 10th generation, also called Intel Comet Lake-S, Intel is also introducing the new 400 series of motherboards. It is based on the LGA 1200 socket. If you buy a tenth generation chip, you also need a new motherboard, the ninth generation or older chips are not compatible. Although motherboards support PCIe 4.0, Comet Lake-S chips do not. This only comes with the eleventh generation.

The revamped Intel Extreme Tuning Utility makes it possible to disable / enable the core hyperthreading feature and add features like improved voltage / frequency curve controls. Additionally, all Comet Lake-S CPUs are supplied with thinner dies) and thicker IHS (built-in heat sink) to improve thermal performance. All major models, with the exception of the F series, are equipped with Intel UHD Graphics 630.

Intel continues to rely on 14-nanometer technology for production. With minor changes, the technology is still based on the same as the 2015 Skylake CPUs.

What do the parts do according to Intel?

Of course, Intel also provides benchmarks. They are a good starting point: independent testing shows what they really do. Depending on the game, the i9-10900K is 10 to 33 percent faster than the predecessor i9-9900K.

Intel does not name a precise release date. The start of sales should be soon. If you don’t want to miss this, you should follow colleague Jan Heidenreich as author. He will inform you when things are available and at what price.

As soon as I have the i9-10900K in my hands, my review continues. Of course, you can also follow me as an author so you don’t miss it.
