How did the first and second corona waves spread through Switzerland? This video provides information.
Switzerland is in the midst of the second wave of the corona pandemic. While the first corona wave started in Ticino in March 2020 and only then spread to the rest of the Swiss cantons, new corona infections during the second wave are more evenly distributed across the country.
In contrast to spring, Ticino is now less affected than other cantons. Since the end of June, corona cases increased again, this time first in particular in the canton of Zurich, then in the cantons of Aargau, Vaud and Geneva.
The video shows the changes in the cantons
The graphic video above clearly shows how the virus spread in Switzerland from March to November, how the number of infections decreased significantly in summer, and how it increased significantly in almost all cantons in autumn. Notable: Both waves clearly show that the western cantons of Switzerland are particularly affected. Only the cantons of Glarus and Nidwalden had a seven-day average of fewer than 21 new infections in mid-November.
The color changes in the cantons in the graphic video are based on the 7-day average of corona positive cases recently reported in the respective canton.
