The aviation industry is simply not breaking out of corona lows. In October 2020, 468,616 passengers flew over Zurich Airport. This corresponds to less than 83.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
The number of flight movements was reduced compared to the same month last year by 64.9 percent to 8,440 take-offs or landings. The average number of passengers per flight was 78.4, 41.7 percent below the level of the previous year.
In October a total of 25,871 tonnes of cargo was handled at Zurich airport. This corresponds to a 33 percent decrease compared to the same month last year.
Dark prospects
The outlook is also bleak: Flughafen Zürich AG assumes that international travel will remain low during the winter months and expects 8 to 9 million passengers by 2020, according to a statement.
“After the first slight recovery in travel in the summer months, the increasing number of pandemics and the large number of travel and quarantine restrictions prevent further normalization,” the airport writes. (pbe)
