According to the Federal Food and Veterinary Safety Office (FSVO), listeria has been detected in corn kernels during internal controls. These corn kernels were used in Anna’s Best Saladbowl Farmer product. A health hazard cannot be ruled out.

The FSVO recommended in a statement Tuesday not to consume the aforementioned product. Migros immediately withdrew the affected product from sale and began a recall.

Dangerous bacteria

According to FSVO, an infection with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes is usually mild or even without symptoms in people with an intact immune system. In immunosuppressed people, several serious symptoms may appear with, in certain circumstances, fatal outcome.

During pregnancy, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriage or the child can be born with blood poisoning or meningitis.
