Coronavirus cases are on the rise again in Europe – in France, for example, around 7,400 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. In Switzerland there were more new infections in the middle of this week than since April.
Hungary reacts to the growing number of cases by closing its own borders. Tourists can no longer travel to the country as of September 1. Chancellery Minister Gergely Gulyas announced on Friday in Budapest. Foreign citizens can only enter Hungary in justified exceptional cases.
14 days quarantine or corona negative test
By closing borders, the goal is to minimize the risk of virus introduction. Most of the infections are due to stays abroad, Gulyas said.
Hungarian citizens returning to Hungary must remain in quarantine for 14 days, unless they can submit two negative corona tests that were taken two days apart. Everyone has to pay the costs of the tests, Gulyas said.
New regulations apply for one month
The strictest measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of the particularly vulnerable elderly and children and the smooth running of the economy, Gulyas said. School lessons will start again in Hungary on September 1.
The new regulation will be valid for one month and will be reviewed in October. (support)
