Thousands of people demonstrated for and against the crown’s policy in Konstanz on Saturday. With the so-called chain of people for peace, the “lateral thinking” initiative on the shores of Lake Constance has mobilized more than 1000 people. According to the police, there were at least 500 others on the island of Mainau. However, the organizers had registered 15,000 people and expected many more. Initially there were no numbers from the organizers. To do this, the aerial photographs would have to be evaluated, said co-organizer Gerry Mayr, who is also organizing a demonstration of “lateral thinkers” on Sunday in Constanta.

The human chain must pass through Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland and thus connect four countries with each other. The goal was to send a European signal against the crown measures and enter into a dialogue with the government, Mayr said. The Konstanz businessman believes that quarantine is a modern prison and the mask requirement is an injustice.

The protests and counter-protests were peaceful

Counter-protesters from various groups paraded in front of the human chain with banners clearly recognizing the crown’s measurements. There were occasional discussions between the individual camps. The police spoke of peaceful protests.

Among the protesters on the shores of Lake Constance was FDP politician Karoline Preisler, who was already a patient of the crown and had come from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. “Today is the day to defend democracy,” Preisler said, referring to the day of German unity. With a signal she made it clear that she herself had the virus. “I think it is correct and important that Corona’s measures are questioned,” he said. “But I would like us to take advantage of the democratic opportunities for this, and I am happy to provide information,” the politicians said.

There have been around 30 meetings and demonstrations in Konstanz throughout the weekend. About 30,000 people are expected in total.
