After 27 years, Friday ends today. The traditional 4-star Hotel Ascot near the Enge train station in Zurich closes its doors. MMC Hotel AG, the tenant of the Ascot Hotel on Tessinerplatz, has deposited the balance. The company went bankrupt due to the crown crisis, as he writes in a message.
This has consequences for staff: all 40 employees will lose their jobs. “We have put in place all possible measures to survive this crisis,” says hotel manager Christian Frei. But the company had no chance. Sales at the hotel and at the Ascot restaurant and at the Turfbar were simply too low to cover costs, writes the “Tages-Anzeiger.”
Also Swissôtel at the end
The Ascot Hotel is not the first hotel to not survive the crown crisis, which primarily affects urban hotels. The surprising Swissôtel at the Oerlikon train station is also closing its doors due to the Corona crisis in late November. At 85 meters, it is the tallest hotel in Switzerland and belongs to the French group Accor. 270 employees, including all apprentices, lose their jobs. Commercial apartments will be built in the house.
