The Graubünden holiday region, Savognin-Bivio-Albula, attracts tourists with a Corona fairy tale (BLICK reported). Tourism Savognin Bivio Albula AG announces crude advertising videos based on the statements of Swiss doctor René Zellweger of the Savognin Hospital for the region around Graubünden Berdorf.
Among other things, Zellweger, the trauma surgeon, but not a virologist, claims that tourists can safely travel to Oberhalbstein. According to Zellweger, smear infections caused by coronvirus are not possible. Furthermore, viruses would not like the sun or the wind, so Savognin’s doctor concludes: “Up there, there is no problem with these viruses. There is no danger of a second wave. I can calm you down.
Hospital distances itself from its doctor’s crown statements
The doctor’s statements go as far as saying, “We didn’t have a first wave at all.” An absurd claim if you take a look at the crown case numbers in Switzerland. So far, in just three months, more than 30,000 people in Germany have contracted the coronavirus. Almost 1900 died.
With his fairy tale Corona, the doctor also got his employer, Centro da Sanadad Savognin SA, in trouble. Now the Savognin hospital distances itself from Zellweger’s statements in a letter that is available to BLICK.
“We appreciate him very much, both as an accident surgery specialist and as a person. The appearance of Mr. Zellweger on the various topics related to the pandemic of the crown corresponds to his personal philosophy, but he does not live in our company, “says the statement from the hospital.
The doctor worked as a winter trauma surgeon in Savognin
The management and the board of directors of the Centro da Sanadad Savognin SA also explain: «As a health center, we always adhere to the instructions and directives of the federal government and the canton in the sense that it is for the benefit of our patients, residents and employees. We would like to urgently advise the population and tourists to follow the rules established by BAG in all circumstances. “
Zellweger also only worked as an accident surgeon at Savognin Hospital during the winter season and will soon return to his adoptive home in Australia.
The cantonal doctor does not find the promotional video of krude offensive
Contrary to the unequivocal distancing of the Center da Sanadad Savognin SA, the cantonal doctor Marina Jamnicki considers that the hustle and bustle of Zellweger’s statements are quite relaxed. According to a contribution by Radiotelevisiun Svizra Rumantscha (RTR), Jamnicki does not believe that the video should be tapped.
“This is his interpretation of certain scientific facts, which may not correspond 100 percent to the conclusions drawn by the federal government, but in principle I find nothing offensive in the video,” Jamnicki tells “RTR”.
According to Jamnicki, the doctor “may have gone too far”
In recent months, the Graubünden cantonal physician has had the experience that there is also a counter-theory for each theory by an expert. “I have no objection to a community reaching out to people directly, as long as it does not contradict the overriding recommendations of the canton and the federal government,” says Jamnicki.
In the end, however, he admits that René Zellweger may have gone too far with his statements that not everything was so bad. However, Jamnicki still maintains that Zellweger “conveys that there is no need to be afraid that if you step foot in a classroom you will die immediately.” At BLICK’s request, Jamnicki declined to comment further. Other inquiries were also unanswered.
Corona fairy tale videos removed from Tourism Savognin
Meanwhile, the crude Savognin tourist videos that caused such a sensation have disappeared from the Internet. At the request of BLICK, Luzi Thomann, President of the Savognin Bivio Albula AG Tourism Board, confirms that the videos have been removed.
“The objective was to inform the people of the valley about the situation of the crown. But we were not successful, so we deleted the videos, “says Thomann. And the President of the Board of Directors adds: “We did not want to disturb people, on the contrary.”
