The Argentine participates for the first time in the end of season tournament and will face Djokovic from the beginning.
“Be careful what you wish for” is a saying in English. Finals rookie Diego Schwartzman had to endure this painfully as well. Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas had “wanted” the Argentine as group opponents in the run-up to the tournament. He got the opposite: Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev.
So only those players who particularly like to play indoors successfully. Schwartzman took the draw with humor, and for the 28-year-old, participating in London is already a huge success. With Novak Djokovic he meets the world number 1 on Monday afternoon (3pm live SRF Zwei).
“Paris re-match” at night
Between Zverev and Medvedev there will be a duel between the two most formidable players of the night. The German recently won two indoor tournaments in Cologne and reached the final at the ATP 1000 event in Paris-Bercy, where he lost to Medvedev. For the Russian it was only the second victory in the seventh game with Zverev.
For Medvedev, London is also about selling better than last year. In 2019, the 24-year-old lost all three head-to-head matches and only won one set.
