- Nadine Fähndrich missed the podium as fourth by a hair in the sprint in skating technique at Davos.
- Valerio Grond surprised the men in his World Cup debut in sixth place.
- In the absence of the Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish teams, the winners of the day are Rosie Brennan (USA) and Federico Pellegrino (ITA).
As in the quarterfinals and semifinals, Nadine Fähndrich chose an offensive tactic in the final. Lucerne wanted to dictate the race from the front. But in the last meters, the Russian Natalia Neprjajewa snatched the podium. It would have been Fähndrich’s third podium in the sprint after winning second and third places at Drammen and Trondheim at the end of last winter.
American Rosie Brennan won ahead of Anamarija Lampic (SLO). Laurien van der Graaff reached the semi-finals, where she had no chance.
Debutant Grond in the final
Valerio Grond surprised the men by reaching the final and finishing sixth. The 20-year-old from Davos reached the top 10 on his World Cup debut and has been recommended for more starts at the highest level.
In the absence of sprint dominator Johannes Hösflot Kläbo, Italian Federico Pellegrino was celebrated as the winner. 8 Swiss men and 4 women reached the quarterfinals on the reduced field. Dario Cologna was one of them.
