Holiday home tenants in Zug scammed by fake ads

The inhabitants of the canton of Zug lost amounts of 5,000 francs, 35,000 euros and 75,000 euros because they fell for the false advertising of holiday apartments in Verbier and Zermatt. They had transferred the money to bank accounts in the Netherlands.

Several people had booked a chalet in December so that they could enjoy Christmas days in the snow. Zug police announced Tuesday that they had paid the rent for the luxurious properties before starting their trip.

Following the reservation request, the fraudsters contacted interested parties, offered them various properties, and also handed over bogus rental contracts. After transferring the rent amount, the contact was broken.

The holiday homes were booked on the website www.hundredchalets.com. In all cases, the property existed, but the websites or social media ads were bogus. The police advise contacting the owners by phone and requesting information that is not listed.
