They threatened her with a fine of up to 10,000 francs, but she only has to pay 1,500 francs: the young woman from Grenchen, who celebrated in June at the Parktheater, although she had tested positive for Covid-19 and the cantonal medical service had ordered isolation. After the night out in Grenchen, more than 200 people had to quarantine themselves.

In a message, the lawyer wrote to Grenchen’s wife on Wednesday night that the prosecutor had opened the criminal order against the young woman and sentenced her to a fine of 1,500 francs. In addition, it must bear the court costs of 400 francs.

Violation of the “accepted” provision

According to the lawyer’s statement, the Prosecutor’s Office considers it “proven” that a member of the contact tracing team had spoken with the young woman about a “possible advance of the quarantine period, according to which the period would have expired on the day in question.”

However, the prosecution also stated that Grenchen’s wife would have had to wait for a written confirmation of the anticipated postponement to ensure that the term would actually be postponed. Because he did not do this, he “accepted the violation of the provision,” argued the prosecutor, according to the statement.

According to his lawyer, Grenchen’s wife continues to adhere to the fact that “based on the proven telephone conversation with the contact tracing team, she assumed that she was not violating any regulations.” Therefore, it rejects the charge of having deliberately accepted the violation of the provision. In the next few days, the young woman will decide whether she wants to challenge the prosecution’s verdict.
