The footpaths and cycle paths of the Rhine in the canton of St. Gallen are closed for safety reasons.
(pd / nat) On Sunday afternoon, the situation on the Alpine Rhine has not changed. For safety reasons, trails and cycle paths remain along the Rhine. from Diepoldsauer Rheinbrücke to Lake Constance therefore blocked. This is communicated by the international regulation of the Rhine in a statement.
The discharge peak originally expected at noon moves into the evening hours. “We expect the peak between 6 and 8 pm,” Daniel Dietsche, Swiss Rhine construction manager for international Rhine regulation, tells “FM1Today.”
This means that levels in the Alpine Rhine continue to rise through Sunday, but remain below originally expected discharge volumes. The foothills are expected to flood in the course of the afternoon, according to the press release.

For the Appenzell, Obertoggenburg, Rhine Valley, Sarganserland and Werdenberg regions, the second highest hazard level still applies today. For the Rhine, the federal government has declared level 3 (“Considerable flood risk”) for next Monday.
A severe weather warning of the highest level applies to Ticino and Graubünden. Incidentally, MeteoSwiss last issued a comparable level 5 storm warning 14 years ago, as the federal weather frogs write on their weather blog. At that time, however, the warning was given regarding heavy snowfall on the southern side of the Alps.
