Huge amounts of rainfall were also recorded in Valais and the canton of Uri. From there there are also numerous reports of traffic obstructions and road closures.
A2 motorway closed
In the canton of Uri, the flood situation calmed down somewhat in the afternoon. The A2 motorway remained closed between Beckenried (NW) and Erstfeld (UR). The Reuss still carries a lot of water, the canton said. To avoid dam breaks on the Reuss, water had been channeled from the river to the highway.
Transit traffic, especially heavy traffic, will be diverted in both directions via the A13 San Bernadino route, the Uri canton police said.
Drive through the canton of Uri
Due to the flood situation in Uri Canton and associated traffic restrictions, the Uri Canton Police recommend avoiding Uri Canton. It also warns of possible debris flows between Gurtnellen and Wassen on Gotthardstrasse.
Several fire brigades in the canton of Uri are busy protecting buildings from floods, repairing storm and water damage and putting barriers into operation. In Seedorf, Reuss’s flood alarm went off at midnight.
Also in Glarus Süd, heavy rains caused flooding. The Diesbach grew especially strongly. The cantonal road Diesbach – Betschwanden had to be closed. In addition, 13 people had to be evacuated.
Possible landslides
The storm also left its mark on Ticino. The damage occurred Saturday night, especially in the Locarno area. Firefighters had to deploy about 40 times, particularly in the Locarno region. Several power outages have been reported, as announced by the cantonal police. In the metropolitan areas of Locarno, Lugano and Bellinzona, some side streets were blocked due to falling trees.

In the canton of Valais, several secondary roads became impassable. The road between Sion and Sanetschpass was closed in both directions due to storm damage. According to the police, there were landslides mainly in Upper Valais. The Simplon Pass and the Nufenen Pass have been closed as a precaution. Fire brigades are in action due to impassable roads.
Rail traffic interruptions
There were also delays and cancellations in rail traffic on Saturday morning, as can be seen from the rail traffic information. Due to floods, for example, train traffic between Meiringen and Interlaken Ost in the canton of Bern was impeded.
Due to the risk of flooding, the section between Münster (VS) and Andermatt (UR) was also closed indefinitely. SBB also had to cease operations on the Schwanden-Linthal route.
The route between Brig (VS) and Domodossola in Italy was initially closed, but could be reopened in the morning.
