Harry and Meghan will definitely not return as royalty

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will no longer return to their royal duties in the British royal family.

The queen had confirmed after talks with the Duke of Sussex that following the withdrawal of the royal family it was not possible to continue “the responsibility and duties associated with a life serving the people,” she said in a Palace message on Friday.

Therefore, both would also return their patronage and honorary military titles. These will be distributed among the members of the royal family.

No surprise

“Although everyone is saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain very dear members of the family,” the palace wrote. From the outset, similar to Brexit, a one-year transition phase was agreed upon after Harry (36) and Meghan (39) retired from the royal family early last year. Until then, the future of the couple should be clarified in talks with Queen Elizabeth II.

The harsh cut that has now been announced comes as no surprise: Insiders had previously stated that the couple’s return to the British royal family was nearly impossible after the two signed lucrative contracts with streaming platforms Netflix and Spotify.

Harry and Meghan now live with their son Archie (1) in California and are expecting a second child, as they met a few days ago.
