Mercedes creates a double victory again: Hamilton wins ahead of Bottas and Verstappen. Giovinazzi causes a strange crash in the race.
After running second in the past two years behind Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc at the Ferrari, Hamilton won the race at Francorchamps for the fourth time. He did it convincingly.
After the Briton, who started from pole, successfully defended his first position in the first few meters, the decisive step was taken towards the fifth victory of this season. From then on he sovereignly controlled the events of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
With his 89th overall success in Formula 1, Hamilton took another step towards his seventh world title. As the leader in the overall standings, he increased his lead over second-placed Verstappen by 10 to 47 points.
Kimi Raikkonen has to wait for his first point at the World Championship this year. The Finn, now in tenth place, was twelfth. For Raikkonen’s teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi, the performance ended with a minor accident after a quarter of the workload.
After a spin, the Italian hit the limit, was thrown back onto the track and thus dragged the next George Russell to ruin. A detached rear wheel from the Alfa Romeo struck the Williams with the Briton, who also ended up on the tire wall as he tried to dodge the car with Giovinazzi. After the incident, the race had to be neutralized by the safety car for four laps to save the wreckage and debris.
