Three days after the defeat in the German Super Cup against Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund again found victory in the Bundesliga. BVB beat Freiburg 4-0 in front of 11,500 spectators.

Last week was an example of how quickly a storm is brewing in the Ruhr area. Borussia Dortmund’s two defeats, one deserved against Augsburg and the other bitter against Bayern in the Super Cup, were enough to reveal the well-known doubts of some fans and experts: there was no title to win in Dortmund with Lucien Favre. The second home game of the season ran for the club and especially for the coaches in Germany again under the title of fateful game.

BVB passed the test against a defensively solid SC Freiburg, but offensively confident. It took young Dortmund half an hour and the cunning of his captain Marco Reus to gain the decisive advantage. The injury-prone veteran grabbed the ball from Freiburg’s Nicolas Höfler in the approach circle, while Giovanni Reyna and Erling Haaland won the ball 1-0.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich had spoken of a bad moment for a game against Dortmund before kick-off, his words were spot on. After the break, BVB kept trying to chase away the clouds that had risen over Dortmund. Emre Can (47th), again Haaland (66th) and Joker Felix Passlack (92nd) were the scorers. The absence of Jadon Sancho and Roman Bürki due to illness went unnoticed.

Gladbach clearly wins at Rheinderby

Borussia de Mönchengladbach also avoided a false start. The team with the Swiss Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi and in the final phase Breel Embolo won the Cologne derby with 3-1. The Cologne team left the match early due to a nervous start. The opening quarter hour had just ended when the Champions League participant was already clearly in the lead thanks to goals from Alassane Pléa (14th) and Stefan Lainer (16th). It was the first win of the season for Marco Rose’s team after a draw and a loss.

Schalke also lose against RB Leipzig

Despite the change of coach from David Wagner to Manuel Baum, which took place during the week, Schalke 04 continues to portray relegation in the championship. Against RB Leipzig it was a bitter 4-0 defeat in the former Augsburg manager’s first game. Nine months and 19 games have passed since the Gelsenkirchen team’s last Bundesliga success.
