Mainly in Oberhasli, heavy rains and landslides on Friday night and Saturday closed the roads. Rail traffic was also affected.
Landslides and floods in parts of Oberhasli and in the Brienz region on Friday and Saturday, relaxed situation on Sunday: After a landslide on Saturday, the Guttannen community was only temporarily accessible via Valais before the Oberland-Ost road inspection reported that on Saturday morning the road between Guttannen and Grimselpass had been closed due to snowfall.
Partially open path
A night lockdown was imposed from 6 pm to 8 am on Sunday morning. Around Saturday afternoon, the road on the Bern side was reopened to Räterichsboden, which meant that Guttannen could also be reached again.
Due to snowfall, the road over the Susten Pass was closed from Steingletscher. The main road between Brienz and Meiringen was also not passable on Saturday morning; a detour had been set up via Gnoll / Brünigen. At lunchtime the road could be reopened.
Rail traffic disrupted
Due to flooding, the Meiringen – Interlaken-Ost line of the Zentralbahn was interrupted for several hours on Saturday morning. The heavy rain had washed the gravel off the road, as the railway company announced. Replacement buses were operated. Starting on Saturday at lunchtime, the trains returned to schedule.
In Unterbach, near Meiringen, the Aare overflowed on the brünig side, Ramona Mock of the Bern cantonal police said on Saturday at the request. As it was not known with certainty whether the dam between the Aare and the main road would withstand the water pressure, the road was temporarily closed. In addition, the cows have been evacuated.
Sunday: “The situation has calmed down”
Kapo’s media spokeswoman was able to give the go-ahead on Sunday. “The situation in the affected areas relaxed on Saturday afternoon,” Ramona Mock said Sunday afternoon when asked. Therefore, on the Bern side, the Grimselstrasse is still open to Räterichsboden, and the road to Susten is passable up to Steingletscher. Both passes are currently closed.
From Friday night to Saturday morning, the cantonal police received around ten reports related to rainfall, most of them from the Oberland.
