Greenland’s polar air – Switzerland woke up frigid – News

• This morning’s early risers had to remove the frost from their car windows for the first time this fall.
• The lowest value on the frosty night was measured in Toggenburg in the Alp Hintergräppelen with minus 22.3 degrees. It was also very cold in Glattalp SZ with minus 22.1 degrees.
• In many places on the plains it was very cold.

According to the Meteonews weather service, it was minus 15.4 degrees cold at Ofen Pass, minus 12.4 degrees at Samedan GR.

Low temperatures below minus 10 degrees were also recorded at Bivio GR, Engstligenalp BE and Andermatt UR. In the lowlands, temperatures ranged from zero to minus four degrees.

Late frosts are unusual

The reason for the temporary cold snap over the weekend is, according to SRF Meteo, Greenland’s polar air and sometimes clear nights.

A late first frost is unusual in November. In many places in the lowlands there has not yet been a single frosty day in November. The long-term average is seven to twelve days of frost per month. The last time November was completely frost free in 2014.
