In February 2018, meter-high flames soared into the sky at Frutigen BE. Thick smoke rises. The century-old farmhouse is burned to the ground. Then the first shock: no trace of the resident! She is considered missing.
The next day, the suspicion is sad: the resident of the house Daniela S. * († 41) is dead, and the emergency services find her charred body in the rubble. It soon becomes clear: the woman is not suffocating in agony in the smoke. She was dead before, possibly murdered!
The victim worked in the Frutigen parish hall for more than eleven years. She was co-director of IT and secretary of culture and leisure, she was known. Her sudden death left the people of the Bernese Oberland in deep mourning. Community Secretary Peter Grossen told BLICK at the time: “We are all deeply shocked. Your loss hurts us a lot. “
Three days after the devastating fire, French police arrested a man in connection with the death of Daniela S. The man arrested is the dead man’s partner, Robert S. * (now 57).
“It was an intermittent relationship”
It takes about a month to extradite the alleged perpetrator to Switzerland. Since then he has been detained. Several times, Robert S. asks to be released, but keeps blinking. He even defends himself in federal court, but without success.
Defendant Robert S. owned a machine manufacturing company with about a dozen employees in Frutigen. Before the crime, he and his possible victim were a couple for about three years. “It was an on-off relationship,” an acquaintance at the time said in an interview with BLICK. Robert wanted to separate. But Daniela threatened to commit suicide and pressured him by SMS. ”
Was that why Robert S. freaked out and became a murderer?
Daniela S. died of a serious head injury
The Thun BE regional court will now have to find an answer to this question. Starting today, Robert S. will be tried there for five days. In the accusation, the Public Ministry accuses him of intentional homicide, arson and disturbance of public order.
The defendant is said to have inflicted serious head injuries on his partner. These were caused by a gunshot or massive hit with an object. He then drained the heating fuel and diesel and set the house on fire to cover the tracks, knowing that Daniela S. was dead in the bedroom bed. According to the prosecution, it is said that he disturbed her dead peace.
37 rifles and pistols were seized
Which also emerges from the indictment: The alleged killer was obviously a passionate gun enthusiast. Police seized more than three dozen of S’s rifles and pistols, including a large-caliber sniper rifle.
The prosecution can and should only rely on circumstantial evidence, and some things in this case are opaque. There is no confession.
The interview with Robert S. is scheduled for this Monday, the first trading day.
