The second race of the women’s giant slalom in Semmering cannot be held due to bad weather.

The weather didn’t play well in Semmering either. After the FIS had to postpone the men’s Super-G in Bormio on Monday morning due to heavy snowfall, the vagaries of nature also thwarted the women’s World Cup. The 2nd race of the giant slalom could not be carried out as planned due to strong gusts.

No later than after the wind cleared much of the finish area (see video above), it was decided not to run the second race.

The second race will not be rescheduled

Following the cancellation, officials announced that the second run would not take place in Semmering on Tuesday or Wednesday. It has not yet been decided whether the race will be rescheduled or restarted at a later date. A ranking evaluation is not possible after the first run. The regulations stipulate that a giant slalom must always be decided in 2 races.

However, on Tuesday he will go skiing in Semmering. In the evening there is a slalom on the program (first race live starting at 3:05 pm, second race starting at 6:25 pm at SRF Zwei).

Gisin convinced in the 1st race

From a Swiss point of view, Michelle Gisin was particularly convincing in the first race. Engelberg’s wife was 35 hundredths behind leader Petra Vlhova in third intermediate position and has the best chance of her first giant slalom World Cup podium.
