Nidwalden came to “Chuenisbärgli” in third place and ended an inglorious Swiss series.
The podium:
- Alexis Pinturault 2: 18,26 Minunten
- Filip Zubcic +1.04
- Marco Odermatt +1.11
The wait is over. Marco Odermatt took third place in the “Chuenisbärgli”, securing Swiss-Ski its first podium since 2008 in a giant slalom at Adelboden. By this time, current SRF expert Marc Berthod had won over Daniel Albrecht.
Odermatt, who was already on the podium at halftime (second), took the podium for the fourth time in the fifth giant slalom this season. Only in Alta Badia on December 20 did he miss the top 3 in fourth place.
Victory in the Bernese Oberland went to Alexis Pinturault. The Frenchman laid the groundwork for his 32nd World Cup win in the first race when he distanced himself from Odermatt and Co. by 0.94 seconds and more. Filip Zubcic from Croatia completed the podium.
The remaining Swiss:
- 5. Justin Murisier +2.29
- 6. Loïc Meillard +2.39
- 24. Daniel Seven +4.25
- Out in the second race: Semyel Snappy.
- Out in the first race: Cédric Noger, Gino Caviezel.
Justin Murisier, who turns 29 this Friday, and Loïc Meillard rounded off a great result for the Swiss team. Semyel Bissig delivered another surprisingly strong performance in race one (14th), but then withdrew early in the decision. Gino Caviezel completely missed the first race. After about 10 seconds he lost his balance and missed a goal.
The other exciters
- Roland leitinger (AUT) set a best time in the second race, which many athletes are struggling with. In the end, the Austrian held 17 spots.
- Riccardo Tonetti (ITA) is about to sit on the leader’s throne, but misses the penultimate goal and is eliminated.
- as well Lucas Braathen (NOR) expresses problems shortly before the end. Meanwhile, he set the best time, but immediately lost his balance and injured his knee.
The conditions
Steel blue sky, minus five degrees and a really sharp slope – that’s how ski racing is really fun. The only disappointment: fans cannot get into the finish area at this year’s Adelboden races.
So it goes
The next giant slalom will take place in Adelboden on Saturday. SRF Zwei will broadcast live starting at 10:15 am (second performance starting at 1:15 pm). On Sunday, the artists from the bar invite you to dance in the slalom (1st race starting at 10.15 am, second race starting at 1.30 pm).
