The Federal Council proposes further relaxation, but is likely to rely on the fact that it will have to postpone them. The task force says that the vacancies now need the cantons’ vaccination turbo.
In the end there is a big question: What does the Federal Council really want?
For weeks, business associations, parliamentarians and letter writers had been building up pressure: opening restaurants, opening gyms, ending the lockdown.
On Friday, the Federal Council sent a relaxation package to the cantons for comment. But he leaves open if he really wants to implement it next week, and his statements are interpreted very differently depending on the political field.
“The moment is not optimal”
“The time is not ideal for openings when we look at the epidemiological situation,” Health Minister Alain Berset said at the press conference. All signs indicated the beginning of a third wave, both in Switzerland and in neighboring countries. In Switzerland, for example, the number of cases on Tuesday and Thursday was 20 percent higher than on the same days last week. Currently three of the four guide values are being exceeded, which serve as a reference for subsequent opening steps (read what speaks against the opening of restaurants).
