The harsh partial blockade in Germany proclaimed by Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) is probably also finally putting an end to shopping tourism. Swiss who still cross the border and do not comply with the new rules face severe penalties.
The German government maintains that the number of new infections has skyrocketed because many people have not adhered to existing measures. I don’t want it to happen again. Germany therefore wants to send thousands of federal police officers to fight the virus, reports «Bild». These are also used along the Swiss border.
Germany considers Switzerland a risk zone “due to the high number of infections”. And border areas across countries at risk in particular need to be more intensively monitored. This is announced by the Interior Minister, Horst Seehofer (77), responsible for security.
Increased police controls along the Swiss border
Entry into Germany from risk areas, according to Seehofer, would be more closely controlled at airports, train stations and also on the roads in the border area. “To do this, the search for the veil is intensified on all German borders within a 30-kilometer radius to be able to control compliance with crown regulations even for those who enter by car from risk areas.”
This means that uniformed officers can control within 30 kilometers of the border without a specific cause or suspicion. In addition, according to Seehofer, the police presence will be increased in large cities and critical points to implement the new measures. “Control of the measures is crucial for the success of the new regulations,” said the German interior minister.
