According to a media report, there are apparently also Islamist extremists among the recipients of the Federal Government’s Corona emergency aid. In individual cases there is suspicion of “direct financing of terrorism,” reported “Welt am Sonntag”, citing a source close to the Berlin police authorities.
According to the report, state security and the prosecution are conducting more than a hundred preliminary investigations in Berlin against some 60 people, mosque associations and associations belonging to the Islamist spectrum. Therefore, the authorities are verifying whether and to what extent Corona’s emergency aid without claim has been collected.
Financing Terror
In at least three cases there should be indications that Corona’s aid in war zones in the Middle East was used to finance terrorism. In total, the total damage in all the cases prosecuted is around one million euros. According to the newspaper, 250,000 euros have already been seized during the raids.
The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) had searched several mosques, mosque association offices and private apartments in Berlin with a large number of investigators. Grant fraud can be punished with a prison term of up to five years, in serious cases of up to ten years. (AFP / gf)
