The British-Swedish manufacturer Astrazeneca’s vaccine is mired in a crisis of confidence. German Health Minister Jens Spahn (40) wanted to change that, and asked his ministerial colleagues at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday to get vaccinated with Astrazeneca.
This as a “confidence-building measure,” according to Spahn, according to the German daily. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (65) followed the call and received his first vaccination against Astrazeneca. Later, he called in a message to all citizens to do the same: “I trust the vaccines approved in Germany.”
The Interior Minister does not want to be “condescending”
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (71) does not want to know anything about it. In an interview with “Bild” he said: “The answer to Jens Spahn’s request is: No! I will not be sponsored. ”Seehofer assured him that it was not about evaluating the vaccine itself.
As of this week, the Astrazeneca vaccine in Germany should only be used in people over 60 years of age. That was decided by the federal and state ministers of health.
The reason for this is the ongoing discussions about the risk of thrombosis in people vaccinated with Astrazeneca. Despite the decision, after consulting a doctor and at their own risk, people under 60 years of age can continue to be vaccinated with it. The Astrazeneca vaccine is not yet approved in Switzerland.
