No again! Once again, the American company is cutting jobs in Switzerland. This time it comes to the gas power division of Banden AG. According to the Syna union, 84 jobs are affected. This was only shortly after General Electric cut jobs in the electrical sector.
“GE’s approach is dubious and outrageous. Employees, the personnel committee and employee organizations are resolutely opposed to the reduction, ”Syna writes in a message.
Waiver required
It wasn’t until October 15 that 300 GE employees protested outside the plant at Oberentfelden AG against the layoffs of 562 jobs.
Staff representatives and employee associations Syna, Unia, AS and KFMV demand that GE refrain from downsizing entirely. It will take this request to consultation at the Swiss and European level, it says in the communication.
“In the last four years, GE has already destroyed thousands of Swiss industrial jobs in several waves of cuts. That has to stop now, ”Syna writes.
“Comprehensive social plan”
The decommissioning is necessary to improve GE’s competitiveness in an “increasingly demanding industrial environment.” Baden and Birr AG would remain “very important” locations where GE conducts research and development. In addition, the company refers to a “comprehensive and well-developed social plan.” All affected employees will be supported in their search for a new position.
