Garden house fire in Landau: several rabbits and birds die

The fire occurred on Tuesday, October 14 at around 4:15 am at the Landauer Family Garden Association on Landauerstrasse, near the railway embankment. A garden house was destroyed by flames. In addition, adjacent garden houses were damaged by fire and a barn with rabbits and an aviary burned down. Several small animals died in the fire. There were no injuries. The Basel prosecutor writes in a press release.

Rescue services were alerted due to a large fire. A short time later, police and firefighters from the Basel-Stadt rescue team were on the scene. Firefighters were able to quickly shut down the garden house, which was in the middle of the fire.

Suspect arrested

The cause of the fire is currently unclear and is the subject of investigations by the criminal investigation department of the Prosecutor’s Office. Arson cannot be ruled out. In this context, a suspect, a 53-year-old Turk, was arrested in the early hours of the morning.

According to the notification, train traffic had to be temporarily suspended due to the fire.
