When it rains, the phones get hot at Strotz AG in Uznach SG. It is the only umbrella factory in Switzerland and its employees must be able to react quickly to the weather.
“When it rains for about three days in a row in the summer, we notice that 1: 1,” says CEO Andrea Stotz. It achieves flexibility, on the one hand, with a large warehouse, but also with flexible employees: “It can produce both for the sun and for umbrellas.”
Strotz AG has existed for 170 years and remains a family business. Up to 3,000 umbrellas are produced per year. An umbrella made in Switzerland costs between 100 and 150 francs.
“Durable products have a future”
Andrea Strotz runs the company in the fifth generation and is convinced that the Swiss are increasingly willing to spend money on a high-quality and therefore more expensive product.
“A lot of people say they don’t want to spend too much on an umbrella because they will lose it anyway,” says the manager. “But the trend towards more green is causing consumers to go back to buying more durable products. Swiss-made umbrellas have a future, of that I am convinced. “(SDA / smo)
